What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is the name given to excessive breast development in men. It is derived from the Greek words 'Gynec' (feminine) and 'Mastos' (breast). As a result of some studies, it has been revealed that one out of every 3 men has gynecomastia.

Gynecomastia treatment may vary depending on the type of gynecomastia. Treatments are determined according to the age of the patient, the condition that causes gynecomastia, and the hormonal level.

The most effective method in gynecomastia treatment is surgical intervention. How the intervention will be performed is determined after the examinations made by the surgeon. Different methods are used in the surgery according to the classification of gynecomastia. For example:

Glandular Gynecomastia: In this type of gynecomastia, hard breast tissues are predominant and this tissues must be surgically removed.

Fatty Type Gynecomastia: Fatty tissues are more. It can be treated with liposuction.

Mixed Type Gynecomastia: There are excess adipose tissues and glandular tissues. Surgical intervention and treatment can be performed with liposuction.

After Gynecomastia Surgery

The process after gynecomastia surgery varies according to the technique used in the surgery. If liposuction or vaser techniques are preferred in the treatment, the healing process will be more comfortable.

In cases requiring surgical intervention, the patient may be discharged on the same day. It is normal to have swelling and edema after surgery. Those go away spontaneously in the first week after surgery.

Mild muscle pain may be experienced after the operation. The first 3 days after the operation should be rested, shoulders and arms should not move much.
