WOMEN AND HAIR LOSS: WHAT ARE THE ORIGINS?

Hair growth can be compared to a garden. The quality of hair growth is a direct consequence of what happens in the scalp.

Although hair loss is mostly a problem for men, researches show that women also face hair loss or thinning hair. In their 50s and 60s, the majority of women experience hair loss for a variety of reasons. However, hair loss can occur at any age for women.

Scientifically, 50 to 100 hairs fall out in one day, which is considered normal for all women. However, this amount of hair loss is not noticeable because new hair grows under the scalp. Whenever this hair growth cycle is disrupted for any reason, hair loss or thinning of the hair is noticeable. Similarly, if the hair follicle is damaged by an accident, hair loss will again be inevitable.

Although the actual dynamics of hair loss are not fully understood, some indicators may be related to it. Stress, heredity, hormonal changes, certain

HOW IS HAIR TRANSPLANT DIFFERENT FOR WOMEN COMPARED TO MEN?

In hair transplantation in women, it is crucial to transfer hair from dense areas to balder areas. Hair loss in women can occur over the entire scalp, which is very different from hair loss in men. This barrier sometimes impedes women from benefiting from a full hair transplant treatment due to the lack of stable donor areas. In addition, because the baldness process varies more in women than in men, there are fewer donor areas in women than in men.

It is imperative to choose the right surgeon to perform the hair transplant in order to obtain a satisfactory result in the case of a female hair transplant. Before the operation takes place, candidates must pass blood tests to ensure that there are no obstacles to female hair transplantation. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is the method commonly used for female hair transplant.

Female hair transplant is a fragile process that requires specialized and delicate care.

Our team of specialists will guarantee the success of hair transplantation by analyzing and determining the reason(s) for hair loss and proposing the best technique to recover the original hair.

We mainly have two distinct techniques for hair transplantation in women. The initial method is called FUE, (Follicular Unit Extraction).  The FUE technique consists in carefully transporting to the bald or thinning areas on the back or side of the head to minimize the possibility of scarring. The second, less commonly used method, is called FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation). This method will only be used if the FUE method is ineffective for the patient.

    1. How To Understand Hair Loss In Women?

Women’s hair has the particularity of growing back after shedding, except in cases of male pattern hair loss and burning. In order to understand the true cause of hair loss, a doctor will be consulted and the necessary tests will be performed. Hair loss can be caused by malnutrition and the treatment procedure is therefore established accordingly: the hair loss stops and new hair replaces the lost hair. However, some of the measures taken may not work. In this case, the hair loss may be genetic in origin. The only solution will then be a hair transplant.

    2. Is Hair Transplant Possible For Women?

Hair transplantation is one of the most popular cosmetic operations for men. We can then think that it is only applicable to men, however, hair transplantation is an operation that can be performed on both women and men. Hair transplantation can be performed on any healthy person. Hair transplant operations performed by a team of experts are always successful.

    3. Is Hair Transplant Dangerous For Women?

Hair transplants are not dangerous for women. Nevertheless, as in any surgical operation, hair transplantation involves certain risks and side effects. However, these risks are not related to a person’s gender. To treat short-term side effects such as scabbing, itching, redness and bleeding, regardless of gender, in any person who has had a hair transplant, medication is provided by the doctors.

    HAIR TRANSPLANT CRITERIA FOR WOMEN

    • The number of women complaining about hair loss is increasing day by day.
    • If the solutions to women’s hair loss are ineffective, the only solution is hair transplantation.
    • If a burn or accident causes permanent hair loss, the only solution is also hair transplantation.

    THE OPERATION PROCESS FOR WOMEN

Before a hair transplant is performed, the patient is examined.

The necessary tests are performed on the patient. If the patient is suitable for a hair transplant, the planning phase is started. At this stage, the patient’s hair, hair structure, hair density in the donor area are analysed. The aim is to find out how the hair will grow back after hair transplant. If there is hair loss on the front of the hair, the front line is redrawn.

ELEMENTS TO BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT BEFORE THE OPERATION

    • If the patient has a medical background or is on regular medication, he or she should talk to the doctor.
    • Smoking and alcohol consumption is risky, especially because it will slow recovery after the operation.
    • Clothes (shirts, etc.) that are easy to put on and take off are preferable during the visit to the clinic.
    • Anticoagulant medication should not be taken.
    • Drinks containing caffeine should not be consumed.
    • Hair must be washed before the operation. No products such as gel, etc. should be applied.

    HAIR TRANSPLANT OPERATION

The hair transplant is done under local anesthesia. It lasts between 6 and 9 hours. Hair transplantation is an operation performed using different techniques. The doctor chooses the hairtransplant technique that best suits the patient. The most commonly used technique is the FUE technique. This technique is done in several steps:

    • With the FUE method, the hair follicles from the donor area are collected one by one. The collected hair follicles are preserved for transplantation.
    • Secondly, channels are opened. During this step, attention must be paid to the angle at which the channels are opened in order to achieve a maximum natural result. Indeed, in each area of the head, the hair has a different orientation, so it must be respected for the result to be natural.
    • Finally, the collected hair follicles are transplanted one by one into the opened channels.

    AFTER HAIR TRANSPLANT

The patient does not need to be hospitalized after the operation. Redness, crusts and itching may appear after the hair transplant, this is completely normal, no need to worry. These are the temporary effects of the operation. They are greatly reduced afterwards, especially during the first wash.

The first wash after the hair transplant is done by one of our specialists, in the clinic, about 3 days later. It is necessary to examine the transplanted hair follicles during the first wash. The patient may perform the following washes alone if all is well.

About 2 weeks after the operation, the stage called “shock loss” begins. The transplanted hair follicles at this stage begin to fall out. The shock phase is a phase experienced by almost everyone. New hair grows over time and replaces the hair that has fallen out.

After the hair transplant, it takes about 1 year to get the final result.

THINGS TO CONSIDER AFTER A HAIR TRANSPLANT

The first few days after the operation are particularly important. During this period, the transplanted hair follicles cannot maintain themselves sufficiently in their new location and therefore remain fragile. The hair follicles need time to get used to their new location and to settle in. That is why the patient must follow the rules given by the doctor.

The points to be taken into account after the hair transplant for a complete recovery, without damaging the hair follicles, are the following:

    • Care must be taken not to receive a blow to the head.
    • Itchy areas should not be scratched.
    • The head should not rub against the pillow while sleeping. Therefore, it should be kept as straight as possible.
    • The products recommended by the doctor should be used during washing and care.
    • The scalp should not be rubbed too hard during washing.
    • The washing water should not be too hot or too cold. In addition, the water should not be too pressurized.
    • The scalp should not be exposed to direct sunlight.
    • Heavy sports should be avoided.
    • Keep away from places that can cause sweating (bath, sauna, etc.).
    •  Smoking must be stopped.
